LOS ANGELES — November 5, 2026. Caltrans has announced another round of overnight paving work on U.S. Highway 101 through Cahuenga Pass, affecting drivers traveling between Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley. The published schedule covers November 9–13, but crews will pause overnight closures on November 10 and 11 for the Veterans Day holiday.
Where to expect restrictions
On Monday November 9 and Thursday November 12, the northbound 101 between Highland Avenue and State Route 170 may be reduced to two through lanes for portions of the night, and to one lane during a shorter early-morning window. Southbound traffic between SR-170 and Highland Avenue will also face lane reductions. Friday November 13 has a different overnight work schedule extending into Saturday morning. Some connectors to SR-134, SR-170 and adjoining 101 segments may close entirely for part of the night.
Why ramp details matter
The project affects more than motorists going straight through the pass. Caltrans lists numerous on-ramp and off-ramp restrictions around Cahuenga Boulevard, Universal Studios Boulevard, Vineland Avenue, Ventura Boulevard, Barham Boulevard and nearby connections. Drivers should not assume the ramp they normally use will remain available simply because the main highway is partially open.
What the work is for
The agency describes the project as pavement rehabilitation. The closure plan can shift with weather and field conditions, and the contractor may conduct rolling closures as equipment moves between work areas. Caltrans will post marked detours; drivers should allow extra time and check the actual status of their route just before traveling.
