LOS ANGELES, Calif. — A proposed 50-bed behavioral health stabilization facility in Skid Row is among three projects selected for conditional state bond funding, according to the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). Another Los Angeles County project would provide 30 residential substance-use treatment beds and 120 outpatient treatment slots.
What is planned for Skid Row?
The state identifies the Cangress Project in the Skid Row community. DHCS says the proposed 50-bed facility would offer peer-led behavioral health support and stabilization. The announcement does not include a confirmed street address, opening date or patient admissions procedure. A conditional selection is not the same as a completed or licensed care center.
A second Los Angeles County project
Compatior, Inc. is separately listed for 30 residential substance-use disorder treatment beds and 120 outpatient treatment slots. The state describes its purpose as expanding addiction treatment and recovery options. DHCS does not identify a specific neighborhood for that project in the public summary; the Los Angeles County location should not be assumed to be Skid Row.
Is all $146 million going to Los Angeles?
No. The department announced more than $146 million in reinvested, conditionally awarded funds supporting these two Los Angeles County projects and a third project in Shasta County. No project-by-project allocation appears in the summary. The Los Angeles proposals should therefore not be described as receiving $146 million each—or together.
What must happen before residents can use the services?
California’s BHCIP awards require further review and compliance before funding is finalized. Facilities must then progress through construction, operational planning and applicable licensing before they can admit patients. Residents looking for help today should use existing Los Angeles County behavioral health services rather than travel to an unbuilt project. For help accessing county services, visit LA County Department of Mental Health or LA County Substance Abuse Prevention and Control.
