LOS ANGELES — October 26, 2026. A former Los Angeles motel is slated for acquisition and rehabilitation into permanent supportive housing with a newly announced $18.8 million Homekey+ award. State officials call the development Casa Bella and identify Los Angeles County and nonprofit Hope the Mission as its partners.
The plan covers 62 units: 61 supportive homes for people experiencing homelessness with a behavioral health challenge, including seven apartments for eligible veterans, plus one manager’s unit. It would be inaccurate to describe all 62 units as available veteran housing or say people can immediately apply to rent them.
Converting an existing motel
A motel conversion can repurpose existing buildings for permanent housing, but the state announcement does not establish an opening date, a specific facility address, referral procedures or completed rehabilitation. The project remains an awarded development, not a newly opened shelter.
For residents following the homelessness response, Casa Bella is one part of a larger statewide Homekey+ program that California says has awarded funding for 2,905 supportive homes. This development should be evaluated by whether its announced apartments and services are ultimately delivered, not simply by the date funding was awarded.
