LOS ANGELES — November 5, 2026. Downtown Los Angeles is preparing to lose a familiar nightlife destination. Everson Royce Bar in the Arts District plans to close permanently on December 19, 2026, after 11 years in business. Owners told Eater Los Angeles in a November 5 report that sustained pressure from higher expenses, weaker tourism, changed customer habits and the entertainment industry’s downturn made continued operation difficult. The bar has announced a future closing date; it is not already closed as of November 5.

What made Everson Royce Bar a local favorite?

The bar opened in 2015 in the 1936 E. 7th Street area of the Arts District and became known for its patio, cocktails, food and ability to draw both neighborhood regulars and entertainment-industry workers. It was founded by partners including Randy Clement and April Langford alongside a hospitality team associated with chef Matt Molina. Its closing represents the loss of a long-running gathering place, not just another commercial vacancy.

Why are independent bars struggling?

One of the owners described a combination of rising operating costs, a decline in visitor demand and fewer people going out after the COVID-19 pandemic and Hollywood labor disruptions. Some film and television workers who previously patronized downtown establishments have experienced reduced work or incomes. These are the owner’s stated reasons; California58 has not independently audited the venue’s accounts or verified that one policy or single cause forced the shutdown.

Is the wider Arts District changing?

Restaurant and bar closures have prompted debate about commercial rents, neighborhood foot traffic and the continued recovery of downtown Los Angeles. The impact of this closure on employees and neighboring businesses remains an important local question. The owners also previously closed West Altadena Wine in October; that separate closure should not be confused with this December plan.

Patrons should consult the bar’s own announcements for its remaining service schedule and any farewell events, rather than assuming hours or events that have not been confirmed.
